The Hattiesburg Tigers were not phased by the long road trip down to Moss Point Friday night as Hattiesburg (3-0) beat 4A foe Moss Point (1-2) 48-13.
It was a wet and muggy night at Jerry D. Alexander Stadium in Moss Point, but that didn’t slow down senior running back Drexlan Allen. Allen had a career game with 15 carries for 155 yards on the ground and four touchdowns.
Moss Point’s defense had a hard time stopping Hattiesburg’s rushing attack. As a team, the Tigers rushed for 292 yards.
Even with poor field conditions, Coach Vance and his Tigers were not afraid to throw the ball. Senior quarterback Jarod Snoop Conner completed nine passes for 75 yards. Senior wide receiver Darius Ruffin lead the receiving core with four catches for 46 yards.
Jarod Conner had, by his standards, a down game with only 66 yards and one touchdown on the ground, but the Tiger defense made up for his lack of production.
Hattiesburg’s defense stifled and overmatched Moss Point all night. Moss Point only managed 170 yards of offense, 160 of which came through the air.
Hattiesburg’s defense wanted in on the scoring too. Jadarius Perkins and Anthony Bullock both returned interceptions for touchdowns for the Tigers. The Tiger defense also forced and recovered two fumbles.
Ball security was an issue for the Tigers as they fumbled the ball four times, two of which they lost.
Hattiesburg is back in action next Friday night against cross-town rivals Oak Grove in West Hattiesburg. The matchup will be one of the best in the state as both teams are in the AP Top 10. Tune in Tuesday night for Tiger Talk with Coach Vance to get an inside look at the matchup.
